R. China and email: xpftsh@, shizbcn@ hejl@ Abstract Trichel pulse is a typical negative corona current with a high regular form, its detailed characteristics has not been discussed. Moreover, the differences in a train of Trichel pulses also have significant influence on the spectrum of the pulsatile corona current and thus the audible noise and radio interference. In this paper, a serious of experiment was conducted on a scale model of transmission line to investigate the detailed characteristic of the difference in a train of Trichel pulses. Based on the thorough analysis of the experimental data, the difference between the first pulse and the rest pulses of a train of Trichel pulses were amply described. 1. Introduction The corona discharge is one of the primary considerations in extra-high voltage and ultra-high voltage DC transmission line designing, due to the possible impact on human and environment caused by this discharge. To find out the mechanism of the corona discharge, a large number of researchers has worked on it for more than a century At the beginning of the 20th century, W.S. Moody and G. Faccioli [1] initially carried out several experiments and investigated the phenomena of corona discharge for the design of transmission lines. Then in 1915, J.S.
