Corresponding aut or : LI He, E-mail: li @ mail. neu. edu. cn) Abstract: A w avelet ridge met od to analyze c otic motion w as described and applied to analysis of nonlinear vibration of a blooming mill aving c aotic motion. T e w avelet ridge distinguis ed periodic motion, quas-i periodic motion, or c aotic motion by analyzing t e time istory of one component of t e system state variables. Compared to ot er met ods, suc as Poincarsections or p ase diagrams, wavelet ridge was more suitable to ig dimensional c aotic systems. In addition, t e clutter of instantaneous frequency represented by t e w avelet ridge can distinguis between strong and week c aotic motion. T e w avelet ridge met od also provided more accurate partial details and features of c aotic motion.
