Abstract Taking the natural polymer compounds of chitosan as rawmaterials, the insoluble crosslinked chitosanwas
synthesized by the reaction of chitosan w ith epichlorohydrin under alkaline conditions as the adsorbent of uraniumbearing
wastewater. The influence factors on adsorption of uranium were investigated in details, such as pH value, adsorbent dos
age, uranium initial concentration, particle size and equilibrium of adsorption and the adsorption kinetics law ofuranium on
crosslinked chitosan were described. The results show thatunder the conditions ofpH= 3~ 5, adding 10mg crosslinked
chitosan, the adsorption equilibrium for the 50 mg/L uranium can be obtained after 160m in of adsorption, and the adsorp
tion removal efficiency of crosslinked chitosan for uranium was over 98. 0%. The adsorption law ofuranium on crosslinked
chitosan followed the Langmuir model very well and the pseudo secondorder kineticsmodelwas used to describe the ad
sorption process. W hen the initial concentrations of uranium is50mg/L, the adsorption removalefficiency of chitosan and
crosslinked chitosan for uranium is87. 4% and98. 0% respectively, and the absorbability of crosslinked chitosanwas mi
proved significantly.
