The Saxons crushed the invaders, so Harald Hardrada and Tostig were killed. The Battle at Hastings: Harold and his fyrd turned and headed back down south to deal with William in double-quick time. When Normans woke up, they found the entire Saxons fyrd occupying the Senlac Hill. * The Saxons were on the top (infrantry), while the Normans were at the foot (calvary).
