Foreword
The 2006 Population By-census provides a wealth of
data on the demographic and socio-economic
characteristics of the population in Hong Kong. It
allows studies to be undertaken not only on various
facets of the community but also on specific sub-groups
of the population.
A comprehensive range of statistics of persons from the
Mainland having resided in Hong Kong for less than 7
years (PMRs), based on the results of the 2006
Population By-census, are presented in this report. The
report goes into some length in analysing the
characteristics of this population sub-group in various
dimensions: size and structure, demographic
characteristics, education, labour force, living
arrangement and household characteristics, and
geographical characteristics. Comparisons are made
with results of the past population censuses/by-censuses
as appropriate.
