Development and Application of Submarine Pipeline Steel ZHENG Lei, GAO Shan, LU Min (Baoshan Iron Steel Co. Ltd., Shanghai 201900, China) Abstract: The quality requirement of offshore pipeline is much stricter than that of onshore pipeline as harsh offshore environment. The X65 grade steel used for LSAW submarine line pipe has been developed at Baosteel, which is produced by hot continuous rolling. The steel is high strength, high toughness and good weld ability. Comparing to onshore pipeline steel, not only the transverse strength and toughness of the offshore linepipe can meet the requirements of the specification, but also the longitudinal properties of the offshore linepipe can meet the DNV submarine pipeline standard and some requirements for the safety of laying and operation of submarine pipeline. The product of X65 offshore pipeline steel has been applied on the Panyu/Huizhou Submarine Pipeline Project in China. Key words: Submarine pipeline; LSAW linepipe; high strength; high toughness; pipeline steel. 1 Introduction The development of remote fields, marginal fields and offshore fields are spurred on by the demand for energy growth increasingly. Submarine pipeline is used to transport nature gas from offshore platform to land through long distance, so the importance of submarine pipeline is getting obvious. As the offshore environment and the condition of construction on the sea is harsher than that onshore, the requirement of construction and operation of submarine pipeline is much stricter than that of onshore pipeline. And the cost control of offshore pipeline project is also important. Therefore, the submarine linepipe should meet the requirement of high strength, high toughness and good weld ability. And not only the strength of the linepipe should meet the requirement of submarine pipeline standard, bust also the longitudinal strength of the linepipe should meet the requirement of corresponding standard[1].
