Unit Three Section A: Where Principles Come First Teaching Objectives: To let the students know something about Hyde School’s principles To improve the students’ reading skill: predicting To lead the students to know a writing skill: using specific details to support a general point. To ask students to master some language points. Time Allotment: 4 periods Section A (3 .5 periods): Section B (0.5 period): Teaching Precedures: 1. Warm-up the students by asking the following questions: 1) I know there are several troubled students in your middle school, usually speaking, what would the school do to help him? 2) How do you think of your school’s way to treat troubled students ? 2. Introduce some background information to the students The Hyde School: In 1966, the 1st Hyde School was founded in Bath, Maine by Joseph W. Gauld in response to a system of education which he believed was failing its children. The Hyde curriculum The Hyde curriculum is based upon Five words, rather than five subjects: Courage, Integrity, Leadership, Curiosity, Concern Character education On the basis of relationships built upon honesty and concern, the Hyde program helps with students’ self-discovery by answering 3 questions: Who am I? Where am I going? What do I need to do to get there? A new student role Students, parents and faculty are required to help others to achieve their best. The Family Education program Educational reform must begin with the family because parents are primary teachers and the home is the primary classroom. Parents’ commitment and participation are important. 3. Introduce one reading skill: predicting Predicting an Author’s ideas -- an important skill in active reading. Keeping your mind alert an involved with the passage Great help to your understanding 4.
