The design of teaching a cloze test 2015-11-18 What is a cloze test ? A cloze test is one of the patterns in the College Entrance Examination. It mainly tests students’ capabilities of reading, analyzing, inferring, observation, knowledge of vocabulary and grammar，cultural background, common sense and so on. It is a kind of synthesized exercise. Features of a cloze test? Usually it is a narration with about 300 words. There are 20 blanks in the given passage. For each blank there are four choices. Usually no blanks appear in the first sentence. It accounts for 30 points in the College Entrance Examination. Notional words ( verb, noun, adj, adv ) are required to fill in most of the blanks while function words ( prep, conj ) are used less. How to do a cloze test skillfully ? Grasp the main idea of the passage. Skim the whole passage without filling in the blanks. Pay attention to the first sentence and the last sentence. Fill in the blanks. Fill in some easier blanks first. Fill in the most difficult blanks. Look through the whole passage with the filled blanks and check the answers. IV.
