The press depth-impact load relation and damaged radii-tensile stress relation curves were investigated. The samples were sphere impacted and then soaked in HCl solution in another group of experiments. Moreover, the features of damage area were characterized and potential hazards of contact damage to rock materials were described. The results show that the surface elastic modulus of granite declines slowly while that of marble declines rapidly in persistent corrosion of HCl solution. The surface elastic modulus of granite decreases by 52.7% in 90 d and that of marble decreases by 92.2% in 15 d accordingly.
