M e thods Cases that w ere still in com a 24 hours after cardiopulm onary resuscitation w ere continuously observed and evaluated betw een April 2002 and Novemember 2004. The m ethods of evaluation included various clinical exam inations, for instance conscious state, G lasgow com a score ( GCS), brain stem inflection, spinal reflexes and so on. O ther m ethods of evaluation included laboratory exam inations, such as electroencephalography ( EEG), brain aud itory evoked potential ( BAEP) , short latent somatosensory evoked poten tial ( SLSEP) and transcranial dopp ler (TCD) R esults 24 of a series of 35 cases( 6 6% ) w ere in deep com a TheGCS is score 3EEG evaluated was not less than grade in all except 4 ; BAEP evaluated w as grade in all except 3; SLSEP evaluated w as grade in all except 1. 24 cases d iedw ith in 1 m onth and 11 of them ( 45 % ) w ere evaluated as having brain death and G lasgow outcom e score ( GOS) w as grade 11 of the 35 cases survived and their state of consciousness changed from deep coma to com a vigil, EEG evaluated w as grade in 5 cases BAEP and SLSEP were grade in the 3 cases evaluated and GOS is grade. 2 cases( 1 2% ) regain consciousness at the
