In 2011 the number of diabetes people worldwide was about 366 million. Diabetes is a chronic disease. It causes macrovascular and microvascular complications, diabetic nephropathy and neuropathy and finally leads to the death. The total number of excess deaths attributable to diabetes worldwide was 3.96 million and about 6.8% of global mortality in 2010.Impaired glucose regulation(as pre-diabetes)is an inter mediate state between glucose metabolism normal and diabetes, including impaired fasting glucose, impaired glucose tolerance, impaired fasting glucose/impaired glucose tolerance three glucose metabolism status. Impaired glucose regulation is a risk factor for diabetes, and about 8.4% of impaired glucose regulation will develop to diabetes in every five years. While impaired glucose regulation is also a risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases. The prevalence of diabetes and pre-diabetes were 9.7% and 15.5% in China of 2008. Our objective was to detail investigate the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and pre-diabetes, and analyze the associated factors among the elderly population in Luzhou, and to provide a scientific prevention and treatment.
