Unit 6 Matriculation Fixation Matriculation: (originated from the Latin matrix) In the broadest sense, it means to be registered or added to a list. The most common meaning, however, refers to the formal process of entering a university, or of becoming eligible to enter by acquiring the meeting prerequisites. Main idea of the text Joe Queenan’s essay “Matriculation Fixation” is chiefly about parental obsessions with children’s educational paths. He claims that not every child needs to attend the most top level college and many people who have graduated from lesser known colleges, dropped out of college or not even attended college went on to live successful and fulfilling lives. In other words, numerous examples prove this fact: there is no strong link between personal success and the level of universities they choose to attend.
