Commerce School, Zhanjiang Normal University, Zhanjiang 524048, China) Abstract Combining with the appreciation practice of regional variance, the basic geo-statistical theory and method of the variogram computation and model fitting, Kriging and option selecting are discussed. Afterwards, the paper introduces the principal characteristic and function of GEO-EAS interactive software package and puts forward the appreciation process of regional variables in an open-pit mine. At last, an instance of one open-pit mine is studied. The theoretical semi-variogram model of coal thick No.17 is established and the variable laws and exploratory degree is analyzed, the contour and rendering map of Kriged estimate and the contour map of standard deviation are produced and the spatial distribution of coal thick and the precision of kriging is evaluated. The practice shows that the prospect of the application of GEO-EAS in the appreciation of coal seam, coal quality and mining index is extensive. Key words GEO-EAS geo-statistics variogram
