METHODS Utilization of antiepileptic drugs in 34 hospitals in Nanjing area from 2012 to 2014 were analyzed retrospectively in terms of drug varieties, dose, sale amount and DDDs, etc. RESULTS Sale amount increased yearly for antiepileptic drugs in this area, and accounted for about 60% for new antiepileptic drugs in total sale. DDDs increased from 35.43% in 2012 to 45.53% in 2014. Sale amount accounted for about 36% for sodium valproate, which ranked the first, and increased rapidly yearly for gabapentin, levetiracetam and oxcarbazepine, but had slight fluctuations for phenytoin and topiramate. DDDs overwhelmingly ranked the first for sodium valproate, and increased yearly for new antiepileptic drugs except for topiramate, but decreased yearly for traditional antiepileptic drugs except for sodium valproate. CONCLUSION Sodium valproate and oxcarbazepine are more chosen in Nanjing. Traditional antiepileptic drug sodium valproate still occupies an important position. New antiepileptic drugs in
