Recently, drive engineers have begun to consider the shaft/bearing arrangement of a new generation of gearboxes. The new generation of transmission challenges the traditional analytical methods and tools. The bearing manufacturer has turned to the application of Romax to solve the new problem. Using the unique analysis capabilities of RomaxDesigner, the new generation of gearboxes will not be more than one day in the process of modeling to analysis. This example considers the condition of two concentric axes connected by a thrust bearing and two radial roller bearings (see figure 1). The analysis takes into consideration: the elastic deformation of all components, the pre-tightening of two radial clearance (RIC) of two roller bearings and two conical roller bearings supporting the outer axis. The analysis found that the bending of the shaft and other bearing deformation caused the overloading of the intermediate thrust bearing. Analysis also shows that in the middle of the thrust bearing service life depends mainly on both ends of the bearing working condition, when two radial needle roller bearing radial clearance (RIC), its life reduced to 50% (as shown in figure 2). Changing the pretension and radial clearance of conical roller bearings also has a significant effect on the service life of intermediate thrust bearings (see figure 3).
