Our Biggest Hazards Lack of Awareness Failure to Observe Rules Dangers from Heavy Equipment Electrical Problems Overhead Hazards Slips, Trips, Falls Today’s Situation Being STRUCK BY, or CAUGHT IN- BETWEEN, are two of the leading cause of injuries and fatalities on job sites! STRUCK BY (22%) CAUGHT IN-BETWEEN (18%) How Did We Get Here? A nation-wide, past history of persons being struck or crushed by operating or moving equipment. The impression that the equipment operator always knows where the ground personnel are located. Keeping Aware On an audit, you are ultimately responsible for your own safety! Keep in mind two rules for reducing errors: Allow enough time Have sufficient motivation / attention Pay attention at all times, do not talk or write while walking in congested or dangerous areas. Observe the Rules Wear required safety protection. Repeated failure to do so will result in dismissal. Listen to safety briefing. Pay attention to posted signs. Don’t wander from group. If in doubt, don’t do it! Safety Work- Site Analysis Identify Potential Known Hazards. Job Conditions: Haul Roads, Access Points. Lay down/Storage Areas. Office, Tool, Machine Operating, Storage Areas Methods of Manufacturing, (increases Risk?) Also Consider: Unwanted side effects of the Job Schedule. EMPLOYEE AWARENESS TRAINING Does Your Job Require You To Approach Moving or Backing Machines? How does the Operator Know Where You Are? Do You Understand all Signs, Markers and Flags? KNOW WHAT THEY MEAN! You Must Always Be Alert to Changing Job Conditions and Your Particular Situation. EMPLOYEE SAFETY RESPONS
