1. Let’s congratulate the _______ on his good marks.
2. He is really a ________ that no one but him passes the exam.
3. Are you the _______ that was not in that accident?
4. Don’t say bad words to the ______! He has been very sorry for it.
5. What have you done to the ________? It doesn’t look well.
6. Jack is a ________ ! he gets a lot of money. ;Step 2 Group Work (Part 3.1 on page 72)
Zhang Li might win his match. If he does, he might go to London. He may stay with a Chinese Family, or he may stay with an English family. Divide the class into 5 Groups and get each group to choose one from the followings and discuss with the partners. What may or might happen next in these situations? Write as many sentences as possible.
1. A woman is sitting on a train. She can’t find her ticket.
2. A man is cleaning a very high window outside a very tall building.
3. A cat is at the bottom of a tree. It is watching a bird in the tree.
4. A boy has eaten four bowls of noodle soup and three bowls of rice.
5. A thief is taking a woman’s handbag. ;Step 3 Oral Practice (Part 2 on page 73)
Display the pictures of Part 2 by Projector and ask the Ss to practise using “Poor thing!” and “Lucky thing!”, “May” and “Might”. Get some pairs to show their sentences. ;;Step 3.1 Review the Reported Speech
1. Ask a student to tell what Reported Speech is and What should be changed in the sentences.
2. Say some sentences and ask some Ss to change them into reported speech.
a. I am your English teacher. b. I live in Guangzhou.
c. I like drawing very much. d. You must study hard.
e. I will be happy if you get high marks in your English test.
3. Talk about “tell sb. to do sth.”, “ask sb. to do sth.” and “say+ that…”
4. Ask the Ss to do Part 3.1. Then check the answers. ;Step4 Summary
1. Ask the Ss to tell the situation of using “Poor thing!” and “Lucky thing!”
