EBW is a dominant scheme for network resource management andadmission control in broadband network environment. It determines the accommodation ofnew connection request by comparing the available bandwidth of the system with the sum ofthe eective bandwidth of individual sources [12]. MBAC is one attractive control mechanismwhich emerged in recent years and received more and more attention [6]. For this approach,it requires no a priori speci cation for the trac which the network is going to carry. Briefdescription for each algorithm is presented in this report, and advantages and disadvantagesof the scheme are discussed. 1 IntroductionATM has been a hot research topic in the area of communication network for nearly a decade.Due to the capability of providing a uni ed interface for a variety of services regardless thedrastically dierent quality requirements, ATM was standardized by the ITU as the choice ofthe transport mechanism for the Broadband Integrated Service Digital Network (B-ISDN).ATM is the packet switching based connection-oriented network, through which the infor-mation transmitted is encapsulated into xed length packets (called, in ATM terminology,cells). This cell switching technology ensures the ATM network to be a source-independentnetwork.One key issue in the ATM related research is how to make the network more reliableand more eective.
