Glycine methyl ester (1) A solution of SM80 (1.6 g, 9.67 mmol) in dry acetonitrile (10 mL) was added to cyclen (0.405 g, 2.358 mmol), cesium carbonate (3.15 g, 9.67 mmol) and potassium iodide (1.6 g, 9.67 mmol) in dry acetonitrile (30 mL). This was then refluxed under argon for 48 hours. The mixture was filtered through celite and reduced before the residue was taken up in chloroform and washed with water. The organic layer was dried over K2CO3 and reduced to give a white hygroscopic powder. Yield: 69%; m.p. 161-163oC; Anal. Calcd for C28H48N8O12K: C, 46.21; H, 6.65; N, 15.37.
