Ea rth Science Frontiers , 2007 ,14( 2) :159 172 Abstract : Layered intrusions are characterized by a typical layering structure and rhythmic texture. Layered mafic intrusions not only represent natural laboratories for studying processes of magmatic differentiation and assimilation within the crust , but also contain extensive precious and base metal mineralization. This paper mainly summarizes the tectonic setting , common features , nature of the parental magmas , genesis of rhythmic layers of various types of layered intrusions , and the important roles that magma mixing and crustal contamina tion play in magma evolution. Finally , a review is made on the genetic relationships between mineralization and magma evolution and the associated characteristic of ore systems.
