What Is Successful Negotiation? Introduction With the development of economy, business is becoming a more and more popular word. In the area of business, not only in the national trade, but also in the multinational trade, business negotiation is playing an important role. In other words, to some degree, a successful negotiation decides the success of the trade. Most people are eager to get what they want through a negotiation. However, some of them do not know what successful negotiation is clearly. In my opinion, a successful negotiation consists of six parts as follows. ■Body ★A Good Preparation For The Negotiation As a proverb goes:” Success always belongs to the prepared.” That is to say, preparation is full of importance. The saying also applies to a business negotiation. As a negotiator, you should know your role and your main responsibility. You would better prepare what you may use beforehand, for example, the related materials. When you make your presentation, you need a lot of data and images to support your ideas. You should make sure that these things are at hand when you use them. In this way, you will not be in a hurry during the negotiation. Obviously, some contingency approaches are necessary. Another important step is that you should know something about your competitor before the negotiation, including his/her strategies and character. Only in this way, can you give answers freely when you face his/her questions. Besides, if you are the host, you should prepare for a comfortable room, establishing a more positive atmosphere. As far I am concerned, a good preparation is the base for the success. ★ A Clear Agenda For The Negotiation If a clear agenda is set, the progress of the negotiation will be methodical. According to the agenda, the negotiators can talk about the related problems step by step, and then reach agreements. With the agenda, time is arranged reasonably.
