It begins its rise from sea-level on the shores of Loch Linnhe, to tower 4,406ft (1,344m) above the town of Fort William. The Pennine Chain (The Pennines) --the “backbone of England,” a series of rounded mountains extending 260 km from the Cheviot Hills on the Scottish border to the Peak District in Derbyshire. It is cold, wet and windy and it sometimes snows between December and March. The temperatures rarely get much below 32°F/0°C. In the summer, it can be as hot as 32°C (90°F)but mostly the temperature only reaches 26°C. The average high in London from June through August is around 70°F/21°C and the average low is around 51°F/12°C. The overall climate in England is called temperate maritimemild with temperatures not much lower than 0oC in winter and not much higher than 32oC in summer, it’s damp and is subject to frequent changes.
