REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE United Nations Environmental Program Topic A : Bio Diversity and City Construction The society’s needs to fulfill their interest in improving the quality of their living standart has become the ground cause of an inevitable impact to the surrounding environment. The idea of sustainable development has been addressed as one of the best way to harmonizing the nature with the human needs. The idea is to uphelding the development that fulfills the present need without compromizes the ability of future generation in fulfilling theirs. We realize that biodiversity conservation could not be achieved only by single effort from one agency. Bearing in mind that we as densely populated country without any hinterland, will faces another level of challenges and requires a pragmatic approach to conservation, also in order to develop unique solution to address our challenges. Republic of Singapore, in pursuing to our regional and international commitment in preserving biodiversity, particularly to the Convention on Biological Diversity has been working on ongoing project since 1960s in result of the increase number of green cover from 35,7% to 46,5% since 1986. The key challenge towards this preservation of biodiversity is that the needs of society in developing economically and demographically is highly inevitable. The main goal is to bring the city construction without jeopardizing the efforts of preserving natural biodiversity. Republic of Singapore would like to propose several principles and efforts in addressing international concerns on biodiversity conservation but not limited to; Outlines new approaches such as pragmatic approach and emphasizing the implementation on adopted convention, resolution and regulation as a form of national, regional, and international commitment in preserving biodiversity, primarily to the Convention on Biological Diversity and Cartagena Protocol, Ensures the fair and equitable policy’s sharing at the same time balancin
