PAGE  PAGE 6 The Second International Conference onChinese Literacy Education (ICCLE)（第二屆中文識字教育國際研討會 / 第二届中文识字教育国际研讨会） 23 – 25 April, 2006 Beijing, China The Second International Conference on Chinese Literacy Education (ICCLE) is intended to provide an international forum on the latest advances in the teaching and learning of Chinese literacy. It will be held on April 23-25, 2006 in Beijing, China. This conference is initiated by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 1994. The second ICCLE is co-sponsored by the China National Institute for Educational Research (CNIER) and the Faculty of Education of the University of Hong Kong. Aims: The Second ICCLE will focus on both theoretical and empirical studies on Chinese literacy teaching and learning. It will be an international platform for all the participants to share the advances in the past decade since the First ICCLE which was launched in1994. Participation in the Second ICCLE will give you an opportunity to keep up to date with the latest research and thinking on Chinese literacy teaching and learning while you experience life in the ‘Forbidden City’, renew friendships and research contacts, and make new relationships. Programs: The main form of the ICCLE will be invited keynote speeches by leading Chinese scholars in the field and paper presentations by participants. There will also be supplementary demonstrations and workshops for interested participants to have some hand-on experience on the basics of teaching techniques and the ways they are applied in Chinese literacy teaching. Discussions on how to facilitate and further the Chinese literacy education research in the Asia-Pacific region (including Hong Kong and mainland China) and Europe will also be a feature of the ICCLE.
