Noakowskiego 3, 00-664 Warsaw, Poland Received 10 May 2005; accepted 26 September 2005 Available online 2 November 2005 Abstract The liquid–liquid equilibria (LLE) of eight binary systems containing 1-methylimidazole and n-alkanes (n-pentane,n-hexane), cyclohydrocarbons (cyclopentane, cyclohexane), aromatic hydrocarbons (hexylbenzene) or ethers (di-n-propyl ether, di-n-butyl ether, di-n-pentyl ether) have been measured from 270 K to the boiling temperature of the solvent using a “cloud point” method. Experimental solubility results are compared with values calculated by means of the NRTL equation utilizing parameters derived from LLE results. a ? K 1 c s 1 2 m [ i z s o p f T o o r i 0 dSolubility of 1-methylimidazole in many other organic solvents (aromatic hydrocarbons, branch chain ethers and ketones) has been measured t temperatures higher than 293 K and no miscibility gap was observed. Introduction We have begun systematic investigations into the physico- hemical properties and phase equilibria of systems with imple imidazoles (1H-imidazole, 2-methyl-1H-imidazole, ,2-dimethylimidazole), benzimidazoles (benzimidazole, -methylbenzimidazole) and phenylimidazoles (2-phenyli- idazole, 4,5-diphenylimidazole, 2,4,5-triphenylimidazole) 1–8].
