A magnetic rotary encoder is an integrated
circuit with built-in Hall elements.
Hall elements can detect magnetic fields over the
surface of the chip.
With a proper arrangement of
multiple Hall elements
and digital signal processing,
the chip can precisely detect
the rotating angle of a magnet
that is placed over the chip

A group of 4 or 8 Hall Sensors is arranged
in a circular array, embedded in the silicon chip.
The circular array has a diameter of 2,2mm
Opposite Hall Sensors are combined by differential amplification
The Sin- and Cos- Signals are digitized by two parallel ADC‘s
Subsequent digital filtering reduces noise
The DSP converts Sine and Cosine signals
into Angle and Magnitude (rectangular to polar coordinate transformation)
