Through the windows, she saw the trees in the open square full of new spring life, and heard the singing of birds.    She was young, with a fair, calm face, and few wrinkles on her face revealed that she was trying to control her feelings. ·She sat quite motionlessly. ·She still sobbed from time to time. ·There was a dull stare in her eyes. ·She was gazing at one of those patches of blue sky. ·She was lost in thought. 6. What kind of life did Mrs. Mallard want? She was longing for her self-existence and self assertion, which were deprived of her by her husband and the society. 5. What did the views, the scents, and the sounds outside the open window reveal about Mrs. Mallard’s inner feelings? 7. What caused Mrs. Mallard’s death? Did she really die of joy? Great shock and despair of her “own life and freedom” triggered her heart trouble. 8. Can you imagine how Mr. Mallard would feel about his wife’s death?
