In some situations it is appropriate to use more formal language, whereas in others, informal language is more suitable. Edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation… etc. Introduction of a paragraph What is a paragraph? A paragraph is a group of sentences developing one main idea. Usually this main idea is stated in the first sentence, called the topic sentence. This topic sentence gives the focus the paragraph will have. The rest of the sentences support or develop the main idea. Often the last sentence acts as a conclusion, summarizing, reinforcing, or emphasizing the main idea.
