abstract
The solution is found for the contact pressure and contact law when a rounded quarter plane is pressed onto an elastically similar half-plane, for the case when the interfacial coe?cient of friction is su?cient to inhibit all slip away from the contact edge. The far ?eld is speci?ed by stress intensity factors as if the contacting pair were a monolithic wedge of internal angle 270 degrees. The solution found is used to investigate corner rounding for a simple contact between a square block and a half-plane, as an illustration of its use.

1. Introduction
The objective of this work is to derive a local solution to introduce some edge rounding into a complete contact. The intended application is to contact problems such as that shown in Fig. 1a, where an elastic component of arbitrary shape (chosen, here, as a square block of side 2a) including a ?at face is pressed onto a larger body, also having a ?at face, and made from the same material. We restrict consideration to the case where the corners of the contact are right angles although the extension to other cases is straightforward.
