All teams are groups not all groups are teams. Teams differ from groups in the shared commitment and the responsibility for collective performance. A team can produce a result greater than the sum of the individual contributions. Teams can be extremely powerful when working well but transforming a group into a team can be hard work. Possible to think of teams and groups at opposite ends of a continuum of independence (groups) and interdependence (teams) Teams operate at three levels: team task, individual need and team maintenance. The team task or goal level will usually gain the most attention from the team, who may overlook the other levels. Individual needs level may often be hidden but the team must recognise and seek to meet these needs
