1. What accounts for a good theory? Firstly, it can make a very strict expression or formulation. Secondly, it can explain the existing phenomenon. Thirdly, it can predict the phenomenon that has not being observed. Fourthly, it should be brief. 2. What is a second language and what is a foreign language? In summary, second?1anguage is over against first?language,while foreign?1anguage and non-native?language mother?tongue ?is over against native?1anguage。 1)A second language or L2 is any language learned after the first language or mother tongue. Some languages, often called auxiliary languages, are used primarily as second languages or lingua francas (such as Esperanto). A persons first language may not be their dominant language, the one they use most or are most comfortable with. This can happen when young children move, with or without their family (because of immigration or international adoption), to a new language environment. 2)A foreign language is a language indigenous to another country. It is also a language not spoken in the native country of the person referred to, i.e. an English speaker living in Japan can say that Japanese is a foreign language to him or her. These two characterizations do not exhaust the possible definitions, however, and the label is occasionally applied in ways that are variously misleading or factually inaccurate. 3.What is language learning and L 1 acquisition? 1)Language acquisition is the process by which humans acquire the capacity to perceive, produce and use words to understand and communicate. This capacity involves the picking up of diverse capacities including syntax, phonetics, and an extensive vocabulary. This language might be vocal as with speech or manual as in sign. Language acquisition usually refers to first language acquisition, which studies infants acquisition of their native language, rather than second language acquisition, which deals with acquisition (in both children and adults) of additional language
