单元分析:本单元的中心话题是询问身边的人或事物的年龄、身高、重量及长度并做比较。内容涉及自然博物馆中不同种类恐龙的比较,动物园里猴子的比较以及不同种类鲸的比较、钓鱼时鱼的大小、长短的比较、学生之间在身高、体重、年龄等方面的比较等等。

一、Warm-up
1. Free talk.
T: How are you, boys and girls? It’s the very beginning of the term. You look taller than before.
2. Say the chant of Book 2 together.
Tall, tall, tall, make yourself tall. Short, short, short, make yourself short. Big, big, big, make your eyes big. Small, small, small, make your eyes small. Long, long, long, make your arms long. Short, short, short, make your arms short.
Put the words on the Bb: tall, short, big, small
二、Presentation and practice
1. Show the picture of Yao Ming and his height: 223cm.
Encourage the Ss to say 223= two hundred and twenty three.
2. Introduce cm= centimeter, have Ss to say the word, read in groups, then individually.
Elicit to say: Yao Ming is 223 cm.
3. Talk with Ss.
T: How tall are you?
S: I’m …cm
Have individuals tell the class.
Yao Ming is taller than …
Introduce the usage of “than”.
Encourage the Ss to make statements: … is taller/shorter than …
4. Show John’s family and introduce their ages. John’s father is 36 years old. His mother is 34 years old. John is 13 years old. His sister is 10 years.
Introduce the adjectives: older, younger
John’s father is older than his mother.
John’s sister is younger than John.
Encourage the Ss to make a compare.
5. Play a guessing game.
