My Concerns on Anti-social Behavior We are living in a society that is at a faster pace than that of our parents’ and great parents’. We demand instant results and benefits, eager for quick success. Technology helps us become more competitive and productive, but that also leads us to expecting more, which may always contributes to negative impacts on our society, including environmental issues, population explosion and anti-social behavior. Literally defined, anti-society behavior could be explained as the behavior that violates the general social value-assessment system, such as harassment, assault or even criminal behavior to the people. The negative impact of our advanced technology is the leading contributor to this behavior. As we state, the new generation is so used to relying on the “high-tech”, and neglects the needs of face-to-face interaction. “Old-fashioned” routine of meeting and gathering is much less attractive because it calls for more time and efforts. Moreover, younger generations are casting away the time-honored tradition of loving, caring and simple respect. Family and social responsibilities are less valued nowadays. To some extent, the blame should lie in the education methods imposed on the adolescents. The school focuses more on providing the competitive environment, and self-esteem behaviors are applauded for benefiting their future vocational career. Cooperation, sacrifice, and humble attitude are not in the right place when the teachers are only in pursuits of high scores. Apart from these, lack of psychological aids from family and society should be the last reason. Confronted with the high pressure stemming from the academic work, the younger generation can not find the proper outlet to release their anger, discomfort, or disappointment, which makes them tend to express their feelings by some violent ways that we call anti-social behavior.
