Taking the coming Olympic Games in Beijing for example, it is inevitable for our commentator to translate the names of athletes and referees coming from all over the world into Chinese. So the author tries to have a research on the translation of proper names. This thesis analyses proper nouns’ translation from English into Chinese or from Chinese into English. Firstly, this thesis analyses the importance of accurate translation of proper nouns. Secondly, it puts forward some basic principles of proper nouns’ translation and then respectively represents translation of personal names and places’ name. The author puts forward some of her own suggestions hoping that it will be helpful to the foreign language workers and lovers.
