Nomenclature of chemicals Plus Appendix 4 母体成分名称形式 取代成分名称形式 Nomenclature of coordination compounds For complex which are salts,the word order is cation first then anion,just as for a simple salt such as sodium (cation) chloride(anion). 1,The word order within a complex cation or neutral complex is : negative ligand, neutral ligand,central atom (with its oxidation number in parentheses). 2,For a complex anion the word order is the same, but immediately after the name of the central atom the suffix –ate is added. When more than one particular ligand is attached to the central atom, the prefix di-,tri-,tetra-,penta-,andhexa- are added. The application of these rules becomes obvious in the following examples: Hexa/aquo/cobalt（Ⅲ）() chloride [Co(H2O)6]Cl3 Six aquo ligands are attached to cobalt （Ⅲ） and the resultant tripositive cation is combined electrovalently with three chloride ions Hexa/ammine/cobalt （Ⅲ）() chloride [Co(NH3)6]Cl3 Replacement by ammoniaof the six water molecules in the previous complex resulted in this ammine Aquo/penta/ammine/cobalt （Ⅲ）() chloride [Co(NH3)5(H2O)]Cl3 One aquo ligandand five ammonia ligands are coordinated to cobalt Ⅲ） Chloro/penta/ammine/cobalt （Ⅲ）() chloride [Co(NH3)5(Cl)]Cl2 Attached to the centralcobalt Ⅲ）are five neutral ligands and one negative ligand. Negative ligands always end in-o, and in this instance the ligand is chloro.
