Insulated Pins All insulated pins manufactured for HPM shall be manufactured to comply with HPM specification drawing 15777 “Standard Insulated Pin” The following specification extracts have been taken from Australian Standard AS/NZS 3112:2000 for information. Insulated pins manufactured in accordance with drawing 15777 will meet all requirements of this Standard, the following extracts are the relevant requirements referred to on the drawing. The critical test is the High Voltage Test (Clause 2.13.3) and for Integral Pin Devices, the Tumbling Barrel Test (Clause J2.2.6.3). 2.13.13 Tests On The Insulation Material Of Insulated Pin Plugs 2.13.13.1 General The material of the pin-insulation shall be resistant to the stresses to which it may be subjected at the high temperature likely to occur in conditions approaching the bad connection conditions and at low temperatures in particular conditions of service. Compliance shall be checked by the tests of Clauses 2.13.13.2 to 2.13.13.6, below. 2.13.13.2 Pressure Test At High Temperature A specimen of one insulated pin only shall be subjected to the following test by means of the apparatus shown in Figure 2.5. This apparatus shall have a blade having a round shape with a diameter of 6 mm and a thickness of 0.7 mm. The specimen shall be placed in position as shown in the Figure 2.5 and a force of 2.5 N shall be applied through the blade to the specimen. The apparatus, with the specimen in position, shall be maintained for 2 hours in a heating cabinet at a temperature of 160 +/-5°C. The specimen shall then be removed from the apparatus and, within 10 seconds, cooled by immersion in cold water. The thickness of the insulation shall be measured immediately at the point of impression. The thickness of the insulation remaining at the point of impression shall be measured and shall not have been reduced by more than 50%.
