A Elephant Festival celebrated in Sauraha, Nepal Nepal has held an Elephant Festival in the central tourist town of Sauraha recently. The aim of the Elephant Festival is to raise public awareness① on decreasing② number of elephants in the country. The festival lasted five days. 127 elephants took part in the festival which was organized by Regional Hotel Association of Chitwan. There were various③ events, such as elephant race, calves football, elephant beauty contest, ox-cart and horse-cart races, among others during the festival. It also features cultural activities, jungle safaris④ and canoeing race. The elephants are between 4 and 5 years old. Young ones are easier to train and run faster. They were trained for weeks for the games, taking time off their normal jobs carrying tourists through protected jungles near Chitwan. The conservation forest has rhinos, several species of deer and crocodiles and is a popular tourist spot some 106 miles (170 kilometres) south of the capital, Katmandu. Do you like the festival?
