Dow Water Solutions DOWEX™ Ion Exchange Resin DOWEX™ MARATHON™ MSC DOWEX™ MARATHON™ MSC Macroporous Strong Acid Cation Exchange Resin General Information DOWEX™ MARATHON™ MSC is a high capacity, macroporous, strong acid cation exchange resin of uniform bead size distribution. It is based on a styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer matrix with sulphonated functional groups. Because of its uniform particle size, this resin offers a number of advantages compared to conventional (polydispersed) macroporous resins, such as improved exchange kinetics during operation, more complete regeneration of the resin and faster, more thorough rinse following regeneration. Due to its highly cross-linked matrix and macroporous structure, this resin has exceptional osmotic shock resistance and oxidative stability. The macroporous structure of DOWEX MARATHON MSC has two kinds of porosity: a significant amount of porosity is in the form of large discrete pores, in addition to normal gel porosity. Because of this, the equilibrium characteristics of a highly cross-linked resin are combined with the kinetic characteristics of a more lightly cross-linked one. With higher levels of cross-linkage than gel resins, macroporous resins are better suited for use in highly oxidative systems. Although the highly cross-linked macroporous structure yields inherently lower capacity than gel type resins, the small uniform bead DOWEX MARATHON MSC provides higher operating capacity than conventional macroporous cations. DOWEX MARATHON MSC is used in aggressive demineralization operations in multiple bed configurations and can operate over the entire pH range, under high flow rate conditions and at high temperatures.
