A DMC Plant with The Production of 5000 tons/a Summary (English version ) Dimethyl carbonate (DMC), which is an environment-friendly product, has attracted great attention in recent years. DMC is mostly used as a synthesis of polycarbonate (PC) key intermediates, most importantly, it is considered to be the best alternatives for methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) as oxygen-containing fuel additive. In recent years, the output and demand of dimethyl carbonate are constantly increasing, the medical grade of dimethyl carbonate will have tremendous prospects in the regional market. Part Ⅰ Technology Introduction 1. Concise Process Descriptions Our project is designed using propylene oxide, carbon dioxide and Methanol as raw materials. This process uses transesterification to produce DMC and the method of extractive distillation to separate the azeotrope of methanol and DMC. The capacity of DMC is about 5,137 tons per year, while the output of the by-product, 1, 2-propylene glycol is 4,349 tons per year. 2. Characteristics in process a) Process Innovation (1) The raw materials will make full use of resources. Carbon dioxide, which has conventionally been discharged, is used effectively to produce DMC. The propylene oxide is provided by the mother factory to cut down the cost. (2) The process introduces a novel solid catalyst which can advance the selectivity. We use three independently developed stirred tank reactors in the second reaction. The selectivity of both the reactions reaches 99%. (3) In the extractive distillation separation, we change the process route from the traditional one called “three towers process” which is composed of extraction, regeneration and refining, to a new one called “two towers process” which is made up Dalian University of Tech
