Shanghai 201900 Ch ina) Abs tract: A new advanced laser w elder and a w eld uality inspection system at Baosteel Cold Rolling P lant TCM put into production in late 2005w ere introduced. Several mi portant factorswere analyzed, such as the incom ing sheet shape ( recorded as heightm ism atch line), steel grades and hot-lens effect, wh ich would mi pact the w eld uality. Through testing and analyzing, the follow ing conclusionsw ere arrived at after tests and d iscussions: ( A) Sheet shape mi pactsw eld uality deep- ly, ( B) the existing param eters should be mi proved accord ing to different steel grades and ( C) the hot-lens effect is the main cause of the poor laser focus, wh ich w ou ld influence the w eld uality. Corresponding measures, such as mi proving the sheet shape uality, mak ing thew eld ing param eters better, using n itrogen as protect gas, w ere taken for the purpose of keeping the w eld uality stable and raising the production ef
