Ed itoral Dep artment of JS FU, SF U, Shang hai 200090, China) Abstract:This paper deals with the effects of water hardness and pH on the artificial breeding of Symp hysodon aequfi asciata .The optimal water hardness and pH during the period of gonad development, spawning,fertilixation and secretingmilkwere 2 3. 5DH and 5. 5 6. 5, respectively.The male breeders were more susceptible for change of water hardness and pH than the female.When water hardness above 5DH or pH over 7. 0, the male almost lost capability of fertilixation, but the female could still keep the ability of spawning.
