[ Abstract] Objective:Tostud thespecie,sconstitutionandoriginationofbacteriainperiapicalbiofilm.Methods:
Periapicalbiofimlsamplesoftwent-fiveteethwithperiapicalperiodontitiswerecollectedbperiapicalsurgerandbacte-
rialsamplesofrootcanalsweretakenfromtwentoftwent-fiveteeth.Allsampleswereinoculated, separatedandpur-i
fiedaccordingtousualpractice.Identificationofpurecultureswasbasedonaerotoleranc,ecolon andcellmorpholog,
colonpigmentation, Gram-stainingofcellsandbiochemicaltests.Theratesofdetectionandconstitutionofbacteriain
periapicalbiofilmwerestatisticallanalzedandcomparedwiththoseinrootcanal.sResults:Twent-threeoftwent-
fiveperiapicalbiofilmspecmiensieldedmicrobialgrowth(92.0%).TherateofGram-positivespeciesdetectionand
Gram-negativespeciesdetectionwere80.0% and84.0%;Bacterialdetectionsofinfectedrootcanalswerealmostthe
sameasthoseofperiapicalbiofiml.Conclusion:92.0% periapicalbiofilmspecmiens ieldedbacterialgrowth.Several
bacterialspeciesexistedin80% specmien.sThespecie sdetectionandconstitutionratesofbacteriainperiapicalbiofilm
werealmostthesameasthoseinrootcanal.s
