METHODSA total of 184 patients w ith cirrhosis from Oct 2004 to Oct 2008 w ere collected as the study object, a casecontrol study was employed to retrospect ively assess the infection and risk factors. RES LTS Infections developed in 64 ( 34. 8%) patients. 44 (68. 8%) pat ients had upper respirat ory tract infections, and 12 ( 18. 8%) patients had spontaneous bact erial peritonitis. Bacterial culture of samples was positive in 10 patients. Six samples were w ith Gramnegative bact eria strains, and 4 samples were with Gramposit ive bacteria strains. On L og ist ic analysis, ChildPugh score w as C, the age over 55 years, splenomegaly/ splenectomy, virus hepatitis, and upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage w ere the independent risk factors.
