Crosstab is appropriate for variables with a limited number of categories. Cross-tabulation normally tells a basic picture of how two variables inter-relate. It helps the researcher to identify the pattern of interaction. Each cell in such table represents the number of respondents/percentage that specified the combination of responses. To construct Crosstab table Analyse Descriptive Statistics Crosstabs Select variables for which relationship needs to be explored. Determine dependent and independent variables. Independent variable is listed in column; and dependent variable in row (e.g job satisfaction depends on income). If put more than one variable in the row/column box, PSPP will display a separate table for each combination of row and column variables. Focus of percentage of independent variables (Column percentage). Scenario 1 To examine the relationship between incomes in range [income4] and job satisfaction [satjob] In this example (Figure 1), [satjob] is dependent variable (row) and [income4] is independent variable (column) because Job satisfaction depends on income.
