Currently ，it has changed its direction from the analyses of nature writing and literature of wilderness to the concern of environmental justice ，from the focus on wild ，rural ，pastoral coun- tryside to the study of the urban environment and industrialization ，from the attention to the land- scape in literature to the exploration of the reasons that have led to the environmental crisis from social ，cultural and ideological perspectives. The alteration of its direction has not only brought vitality and impetus to environmental study itself ，but also new hope for the research of ethnic lit- erature. Chinese American literature ，a prominent branch of ethnic literature ，is thought by many as lacking in nature writing and thereby unsuitable for environmental studies. But by a close read- ing of some selected texts concerning the two aspects ，Feng Shui and animal preservation ，the present paper argues that it can be interpreted from the ecological perspective.
