The shift-inva ria nt discrete wavelet transform( SIDWT) algorithm is used for fusing SAR and pa nchromatic remote sensing images which are taken ondifferent time of the same tida l periodicity. A new fusion rule is presented for complementary information enha ncement. The fused approximate coefficients a re obtained by weight rule based on edge extracting. Maximum absolution va lue rule is adopted to fuse the deta iled coefficients. Thus the new fused image can outstand thetide intertidal shape, coast line a nd alongshore zone characteristic for visual interpretation easily. Experimental results for real images demonstrate the effectiveness of the a lgorithm proposed.
