HL7 INTRODUCTION 1 Introduction 1.1 PURPOSE This document provides assistance to health care institutions, hospital information systems vendors,consultants and other support groups that are considering systems development and implementation activities in a multi-system environment using the Health Level Seven (HL7) protocol. Frequently Asked Questions The Support Guide represents the efforts of the HL7 Implementation Committee to develop support materials for organizations implementing or considering implementation of HL7 interfaces. Comments and suggestions regarding content or format are welcomed, and should be directed to the Implementation Committee Chairperson(s) listed at the end of the guide. Please keep in mind that both the planning and design/implementation methodologies are intended to serve as general guides to help in planning and implementing HL7 interfaces. This guide should be used in conjunction with your standard systems development methodology. This guide is also intended for use in conjunction with the HL7 interface standards specification document.The specification document is provided to all members of the HL7 organization. To join this organization and receive a registered copy of the current specification document, send a membership enrollment form and the appropriate fees to Health Level Seven. This guide is not intended as a tool to validate or certify HL7 interfaces.
