One of the key components affecting the overall performance of Ad Hoc access networks is the algorithm used to select foreign agents. Since Jelger algorithm has the defect of frequent handoffs and more average hops, an improved algorithm based on hops and route stability is proposed. Compared with Jelger algorithm, the proposed algorithm can remarkably decrease the handoff times and average hops to the foreign agents. Additionally, it has lower and more stable packets lost ratio.
